Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) was set up on 1st of October 1964. This public sector undertaking was formed when Aircraft Manufacturing Depot Hindustan Aircraft Limited, Aeronautics India Limited, Kanpur came together. A visionary industrialist of the 1940s, Seth Walchand Hirachand actually set up Hindustan Aircraft Limited in Bangalore, which came under the princely state of Mysore. The Government of India took over this company in 1942. In 1964, this company along with the others formed HAL.
